ok. omg. i have seen perfect blue about 9 times throughout my life. every single time i have
become even more freaked out how much many of the things in the movie that are relatable for me.
I have had to deal with multiple stalker situations in not only my vtuber career but also in
nursing.
which is um... obviously not GOOD. lmao. I watched this movie most recently with my friends on
our trip in Oct 2025 for the 4k remaster. We had (almost) front row seats which arent my
favorite but i thankfully didnt get a headache.
if, by some chance, you arent familiar with this movie, i will keep my review mostly spoiler
free. so the movie follows this girl Mima, who is like this sweet lil pop idol with cute outfits
and the voice of a cinnamon roll, and she decides to become an actress to be taken more
seriously and like… everything immediately goes to complete hell.
suddenly there's a
creepy
stalker, a
mysterious website that knows way too much, and scenes that make you go “wait did that actually
happen or is it a dream or is it a movie inside a movie or are I the movie????”
'Perfect Blue' is an easy 9/10 id give it a 10/10 but im scared the actual events of
the movie will occur in my life if I give it a perfect score. haha... im serious

the main setting of the show is PARK PLANET, a giant floating amusement park in the sky. its visually dreamlike, utopian on the surface and very blue. beneath the park, there is a shadowy industrial wasteland called m7 where assumedly, the lower class of "blue collar"-esque workers reside and potentially work. life sucks there and we see the divide of classes in multiple ways throughout the show. a leading example is introduced with our main characters- Frankie and Andi. Slight spoiler?? hypothesis??? there appears to be many park planet(s) not only implied other locations but potentially failed locations...(maybe???)
The titular character (or mascot) is Guinevere, an android “princess” android who acts as the mascot of Park Planet. There are many versions of Guinevere androids. We are also briefly introduced to Olivia and Orville park, the father daughter creators/owners? of the park. Additionally, we also meet Frankie's potential father or father figure, Sparky. There has been much debate online on the gender orientation of Frankie due to variations in the way they are adressed by different individuals.
through flashbacks and potential hallucinations by frankie, we learn about the backstory of Geuinevere and her relationship to Frankie, Andi, and the park. At the scrap yard, Frankie and Andi find a broken Guinevere bot that seems to be "unique". seeing as an opportunity to better themselves for a potential job with park planet (or her subconscious drive to be close to Guine??) they want to fix her. They both sneak into an underground lab and are met with and unknown terrifying foe. The episode hangs on a cliffhanger and Guine wakes up and challenges their persuer.
i am super excited for this series to progress. Glitch has been putting out some insane things lately and im really excited to see their studio develop! I was actually put onto this studio pretty recently by my friend! (see meme below).
People have all kinds of opinions on hazbin and vivzie_pop but i am thankful that more small studios are getting recognition and funding in partly due to the massive successes of hazbin. i mean, fuck bro... they are on amazon prime!
There is a ton of super interesting themes in this show that I am excited to see progressed. Particulary the body horror (androids with visible mechanical or biological parts), experimentation, disturbing visions / illusions. Also the unease of being controlled / watched, the breakdown of the “perfect” façade, shared collective consciousnesses, trauma. alos wtf is going on with that infection making people blue???
overall, a fantastic watch. beautiful artwork and animation. a perfect pilot in my eyes!
